I have been ignoring you.

where was I? I havent vanished, I am alive, I’m sorry I have been ignoring you. I just needed a little time away, a little alone time, some space for me. it wasn’t you it was me. Aaron O’ Brian who should be studying for his leaving cert right now told me not to say that. He is one of the Triathlon Ireland juniors out here with us on your winter training camp in Spain.

I told him get back in his room and study. He picked up the sun newspaper and said he was studying, I asked him what could he possible be studying in that toilet paper rag. Short stories and a far removed concept of reality. Right then now you are not allowed read the sports section, you know my strong views on that terrible sphere ball, an excuse for a sport and overpaid grown men rolling around on the ground like small girls. right I have said to much. Ill post something like the old crap I used write later on today. in the mean time, get back to work and stop reading my blog during work hours.

I needed a break from the blog, when you haven’t got much to say there isn’t much point is saying anything. it mainly jibber jabber on here anyway. Some pearls of wisdom, I just got on with the day job of training and racing, sure that is what it is all about. Blogs, well they are just for blowing your own trumpet tell your mum and dad how it all went and passing time, passing time for me while on the road and and distracting you from doing your work.

Maybe I should make more of my blog and be more vocal, hum, that can get you in trouble. I have been told stay away from controversy and trouble on here. best not say anything like that, I think 2013 I am going to become more vocal. its all a game we play, in my position you do have sponsors and you do have to be careful what you say as you represent them and their brand. Right ill drop this hot potato now before I start talking about the abortion referendum or the like.

I got a phone call from a reporter in the Irish Examiner the other day for a good old back and forth that I had with Thomas Chamney on twitter, I might have said to much in that interview, woops.

So where have I been, same place as every brain, everywhere! even living in Limerick!!
I managed to get on the little screen, doing some commentating for RTE TV on the Olympic triathlon. How Awesome was Gavin Noble, He said he got lucky in the swim, I don’t believe that for a second, I actually said that in my coverage, I don’t remember saying that, why would I say that? he wasn’t lucky, he worked so hard for that, yet he reminds me of this nervous moment where I was frightened of dead air, he did some amount of work when we were living together in Limerick prepping for the games. It was an awesome performance.

I had a 2nd place for a 2nd time in Karlovy Vary ITU race in August, I always seem to race well around my birthday, I did get many presents from you all, gutted. I expected more really, yes I am demanding, I lashed on over to Scotland for the british super series race in Strathclyde, it got turned into a duathlon, I got a 20sec start time penalty along with half the field(25), I ended up 4th in the race, It was ok, my run let me down a bit. I tried to race like a boss. some of you might have seen the race on Eurosport, or heard Dicky Stanards comments on my lack of hip mobility, ( Cheers Dicky, still working on that area since the accident mate).

After that I flew to Spain for a camp with my Aussie friends for a few weeks, did a few races, Nice French GP (30th) from there I flew to Asia for Tongyeong World Cup, got sick on the way and had a week in Korea in a hotel room eating rice. I also got rob by Air France for bringing my bike, Ihad a rant about that one on Twitter, Sadly I had a crap race and finished in 25th place, this is all part of it, sometimes you get sick, you try and control things when traveling wash your hands, take your nasal spray, load of on pills on the flight, sometimes your body just says no. it was a big let down at the end of the season.

From here I came home and raced the Snowman triathlon (2nd) in Wales, I went over with the good people of CRC (chain reaction cycles). it is some race, coldest water I have ever been in, 10km mountain run, well that one I did see coming, I gave up a 7min lead off the bike, my little girl boy legs don’t like down hill running, I just cant do it.

Did you manage to read Tyler Hamiltons book? great read, loved when USADA’s report on the Dirty LA came out, love seeing the cheat fall.

From there I went into a bigger run block, I was hoping to make the mens senior team for the European cross country championships, that was the plan, raced the Gerry Farnham (10th) not great, 2nd at the Cork County Champs and my legs were coming around nicely. we won the mens and women’s Cork Senior titles as well fro Leevale which was great as we hadn’t done the double since 1983, A 5km road race (2nd) and we were ready to run the All Ireland inter counties, I ended up 7th at all irelands, the last time I ran an All Irelands was in 1999, it was great to be back on the country again. I was disappointed with the result having run in 4th/5th for most of the race, thats just how it goes, I wasn’t strong enough on the day.

This kinda brings us up to today in Spain at the end of another triathlon Ireland training camp, with the usual kids.

2013 is fast approaching and I am heading to Australia at the end of January to start my season in the first week February, Oh Shit, lots of work still to do,
